The history
of Roulette
is one that can be explained in a
few paragraphs, but still covers many countries of
the world. A mathematician named Blaise Pascal
invented
Roulette
in the French 17th century, which was over three
hundred years ago. In 1842, there was another two
Frenchmen named Francois and Louis Blanc who added
the "0" to the Roulette
wheel in order to increase house
odds. Increasing the house odds means that the
gambler will win less often.
Roulette
was introduced to the U.S. in the
1800's with the addition of the second 0 in order to
increase the house odds even further, so the gambler
will win even less often. In the coming years,
Roulette
spread all over Europe and the U.S. making it one of
the most famous casino games, such as it is today.
Some consider Roulette
the "King of the Casino Games"
because it was associated with the casinos in Monte
Carlo which has a great number of
Roulette
wheels of all variants. Francois
Blanc established the first casinos in Monte Carlo
and allegedly bargained with the devil to obtain the
secrets of roulette. This statement comes from the
fact that when you add up all the numbers on a
Roulette
wheel they equal "666" which is
reported as representing the devil. Many people do
not believe in this theory but there are gamblers
who do.

Roulette
consists of a wheel with 38 numbers, these include
the numbers 1-36, 0, and 00. After all the bets have
been established the wheel is spun and a ball is
placed on the outer edge of the wheel. The ball will
then drop into one of the numbered pockets once the
wheel slows down. The numbers on the wheel alternate
pairs of odd numbers with pairs of even numbers and
alternate between black and red. The two zeros are
green in color and are placed at opposite ends of
the wheel. The object of the game is to determine
which number or color the ball with ultimately land
on.
The table layout is arranged so that the 36 numbers
are arranged in 3 columns of 12 numbers each. The
numbers are in sequence, and can be either red or
black, depending on the number. There are two types
of Roulette bets: inside bets and outside bets. The
6 inside bets: straight bet, split bet, street bet,
corner bet, five number bet, and a line bet. There
are three basic outside bets: even-money, column,
and dozen bets. You can place as many different
types of bets at any time. There are no limits to
the number of wagers placed on each spin.
When playing the game of Roulette at online casinos,
there is a usually a winning number display at the
top right of your screen to help you find the
previous winning numbers. The common perception is
that if a number has not been shown as winning in a
long time, it could be time to put a stake on that
number.
INSIDE BETS:
Straight Bet
You can bet on one number by placing a chip in the
center of the number you want to place your bet on
(1-36, 0, 00). If that number wins you are paid 35
to 1.
Split Bet or
Two Number Bet
You must place your chip on the line between two
separate numbers. If the ball lands on either of
these numbers you win. The pay out is 17 to 1.
Street Bet or
Three Number Bet
This allows you to cover three numbers in a row with
one bet. To make this bet place your chip in the
outside line of the row you want to bet on. If one
of these three numbers comes up, you win. The payout
is 11 to 1.
Corner Bet
Place your chip in the center of four numbers and if
one of these numbers comes up, you win. Pays at 8 to
1.
Five Bet
The only five number bet you can make is on the
numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. Place your chip on the
outside line that divides the 0 and 1. If any of
these 5 numbers comes up you will be paid 6 to 1.
Six Line Bet
Allows you to bet on two rows of three numbers.
Place your chip in between the outside line of the
last numbers of the two rows. If any of the 6
numbers come up you will be paid 6 to 1.
OUTSIDE BETS:
The following 3 outside bets all pay
at 1 to 1.
Any Red or Black Bet
Bet on either red or black. Place your chip on
either the red spot or the black spot.
Any Number or
High Number Bet
Bet on whether the next number will be 1 through 18
or 19 through 36. Place your chip on either 1 to 18
spot or on the 19 to 36 spot. You lose if either the
0 or the 00 come up.
Any Even or Odd
Bet
Bet on whether the number will come up as even or
odd. Place your chip on the even spot or the odd
spot. You lose if either the 0 or the 00 come up.
1st 12, 2nd 12,
3rd Twelve
These bets divide the Roulette table into the
numbers 1-12, 13-24, and 25-36. Place your chip on
one of three spots: 1st 12, 2nd 12, or the 3rd 12.
This bet pays 2-1.
0 and 00 Bet
Bet the number 0 or 00 by placing your chip on the
corresponding spot. This bet pays at 35 to 1.
Column Bets
A column bet is a bet on any one of the three long
columns of numbers. To make the column bet place
your chip on any one of the 2 to 1 spots. This bet
pays 2 to 1.
When comes to roulette,
there is basically no strategy. But, if you're going
to play, European Roulette is the way to go. The
difference being, in American roulette, the wheel
has 38 slots with "0" and "00". The European version
has 37 slots with only "0". Follow these tips to
give you the best chance of winning:
Wager on low-odds and even-money bets as they offer
the lowest house advantage when playing roulette
Only play at casinos that offer
European roulette. With that extra zero in American
roulette, the house has a 5.3% advantage where as
with European roulette, the house has a 2.7%
advantage
We recommend that you only play
Roulette for brief periods of time Don't bet on the
five-spot or top line (0, 00, 1, 2, 3) on American
roulette
Set a specific target amount of
money to play Roulette with. Once you lose it, quit.
Roulette should be played for its entertainment
value
There a two styles a Roulette
tables, one with a single zero and the other with
two zero. We will examine the probabily of both
tables.

For any
player who is seeking to place some kind of
structure on his or her bankroll, the even money
bets, dozens, and column bets are the safest
choices. The even money bets produce the lowest
House Edge of all the Roulette wagers - in
conjunction with the en prison rule the House Edge
is lowered even more. As is the case at any casino
game, it is important to place the majority of one's
wagers with the bets offering the lowest Casino
Advantage. This isn't to say that a player should
cease from some of the more chancy wagers like the
street, split or straight-up. These are very
exciting bets to make, and can and do produce some
large winners at the wheel. However, it is to say
that these bets should not be made as often as the
even money bets if the player is planning to gamble
at online Roulette for an indefinite length of time.
Furthermore, if one of these bets does happen to
win, this might be a very good time to walk away,
depending on your bankroll status. Keep in mind that
all the bets on the Roulette table naturally return
a 5.25% Casino Advantage (except the five-number
bet), although there are some situations when this
advantage can be lowered to 2.6% and 1.3%. With this
in mind, here are the best non-system related tips
that will help a player hold out at the Roulette
table:
1.Play
the European version of Roulette
Most
online casinos will offer both the American and
European versions of roulette. The only excuse for
not playing the standard European version is
ignorance, because the American version produces a
higher House Edge. European Roulette does not offer
the 00 on the wheel, thereby taking one more bet out
of the equation, and lowering the House Edge to
approximately 2.6% - the lowest edge at the table.
2.Place
more even money bets than other wagers
The
even money wagers will give the player the lowest
House Edge at online roulette. These are the
Red/Black, High/Low and Even/Odd bets, which have a
50/50 chance of winning. With these bets, a 1.3%
House Edge is obtainable, and will help a bankroll
hold out longer with more positive return.
Additionally, it is only the even money bets that
qualify for the "en prison" rule (see tip #3), which
will bring the House Edge down even more.
3.Play
a Roulette table that offers the en prison or la
partage rule
With
this rule in place, which not all casinos offer,
(and so therefore is a subject worth looking into
when picking an online casino to play Roulette at)
the House Edge can be brought down to 1.35%. It
states that when a 0 (and 00 for the American
version) is landed by the Roulette ball, all even
money bets are not lost, but are rather afforded the
opportunity to stay on the board for the next bet,
or be taken back by the player. In the long run,
this rule can be the deciding factor on whether a
player ends in the red or not. It may not even come
into play during a round of roulette. However, the
fact that it can be exercised is quite reassuring,
made evident by a House Edge reduced by half. Las
partage, also called the Surrender rule, governs
even money wagers in the same fashion, except that
it returns half of the wager, thereby returning a
2.6% House Edge.
4.Do
not place the five-number bet
The
five-number bet, simply put, gives a House Edge of
7.3%. This is the highest casino advantage of any
other Roulette wager, and should always be avoided.
With 5 to 1 payout odds, a player is better off
taking the 8 to 1 payout on a corner bet.
As one can see, an approach to
playing Roulette can still be based on the numbers,
as few as they might be. The Casino advantage and
odds still change from bet to bet, but do so in such
a way that making a wise wager choice is easy to not
second-guess oneself over
